Who Can Join
Our private day hikes are a great fit for people who enjoy being active outdoors and want to experience the beauty of the Canadian wilderness with their family or friends, without the hassle of planning.
These hikes are ideal for adults, couples, families, and small groups looking for a well-organized, relaxed day in the mountains. Children aged 10 and older are welcome on private hikes. For safety and comfort, we recommend a maximum of 2 children per paying adult or guardian.
Fitness & Expectations
Guests should be in good general health and comfortable with moderate hiking. Most hikes involve several hours on the trail at a steady, relaxed pace, including breaks, uneven terrain, and some elevation gain.
These experiences are not suitable for guests who require frequent or urgent medical care. While we remain within a day’s access of town, you should be comfortable spending extended time outdoors without immediate access to facilities or consistent cell service.
The focus is on a well-paced, enjoyable day in nature. Challenging enough to feel rewarding, but never rushed or extreme.
How the Day Works
We meet at a pre-arranged location and travel together to the trailhead. From there, we hike at a comfortable pace, take in the landscape, and enjoy time on the trail before returning the same day. Everything is planned and guided, so you can focus on the experience.
Personalized Experience & Safety
Every booking starts with a short video call to go over the plan, answer questions, and make sure the hike is the right fit for you or your group. Before confirming, all guests complete a simple fitness and medical intake form, including allergies, and sign a waiver.
Safety and preparation are central to every trip. Wilderness Escape Adventures is led by a certified guide with training in advanced wilderness first aid, wildlife and bear safety, and extensive experience in the Alberta backcountry. You benefit from that preparation without having to think through the details yourself.
What should I bring or prepare?
Bring clothing and gear suited for the outdoors. Arrive prepared. What you will want to bring:
-
A day-hike backpack (20–40 liters) for water, snacks, layers, and personal items
-
Separate small duffel or bag for extra clothes
-
Proper hiking boots that are already broken in
-
Crocks/Flipflops/Water shoes for the river/ around camp are highly recommended
-
Good wool hiking socks (like J.B. Fields Hiker GX)
-
Any personal medication you need
-
A warm jacket or sweater for cooler evenings
-
Swim clothes and a towel for river dips
-
Comfortable clothes to sleep in (thermo/baselayer)
Optional:
-
Extra Snacks for during the day if you like
-
(Protein bars, etc)
-
-
Any preferred drinks like Gatorade or sports drinks
Meals & Dietary Needs
Food is a key part of the experience. Breakfast and dinner at camp are freshly prepared and designed to be hearty, simple, and satisfying after a day outdoors, with coffee, tea, and drinking water always available. Typical meals include eggs, meat, vegetables, and campfire‑style dishes rather than freeze‑dried camping food.
Vegetarian and pescatarian options are usually possible with advance notice, and we can often work around specific allergies if you tell us during the booking process. At this time we are not able to offer fully vegan menus. Guests may bring their own daytime hiking snacks such as bars, nuts, trail mix, and any preferred sports drinks.
Travel Insurance & Gratuities
We strongly recommend that guests carry travel insurance that covers trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and evacuation, especially for international visitors. Wilderness travel always carries some uncertainty, and insurance is the best way to protect your investment if something unexpected happens before or during your trip.
While gratuities are never required, they are a wonderful way to thank your guide for a safe and memorable trip. A customary tip is 10% to 20% of the tour price, typically given in cash at the end of the hike.

Cancellation Policy
If you cancel 4 or more weeks before departure, you receive a full refund. If you cancel within 4 weeks of departure, the deposit is non-refundable, and no refunds are given within 14 days of the trip start date. Exceptions may be made for emergencies at our discretion.
Weather & Trip Changes
If we need to cancel a trip before departure because of severe weather, safety concerns, or other unforeseen conditions, international guests receive a full refund, and Alberta residents receive full credit toward a future trip. If weather or conditions require adjustments during the trip, we will work with you to find the best solution, though any additional costs, such as alternate accommodation, remain the guest’s responsibility.
Booking & Payment
A 35% deposit is required to confirm your reservation, and the remaining balance is due 14 days before your trip starts. All prices are in Canadian dollars and are subject to 5% GST.
What happens after I send an inquiry?
After you send an inquiry, we reply personally, we arrange a short video call to go over your plans and expectations, answer questions, and make sure the experience suits you and your group.
Once you are ready to move forward, you will receive access to complete the online waiver and fitness assessment form, including any important medical, allergy, or dietary information. After those forms are completed, we send you a secure payment link for the 35% deposit.
Your booking is confirmed once the deposit has been paid.
The remaining balance is due 14 days before your trip starts.
